The Town of Pelham is cleaning the forebay at the River Estates Stormwater Management Facility, with work running from Monday, Sept. 28 until Friday, Nov. 6, weather permitting.
The project is taking place at Riverview Park, located at 30 Bergenstein Crescent near Port Robinson Road and Rice Road.
According to a Town of Pelham notice, the contractor's working hours are Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Stormwater management facilities capture runoff from roads, driveways and lawns before it reaches local creeks. The forebay, a settling pond at the facility's inlet, is designed to trap sediment and debris so cleaner water flows onward. Over time, that material builds up and must be dug out to keep the facility working as intended.
Residents in the River Estates area may notice trucks and heavy equipment in and around Riverview Park on weekdays while the cleanup is underway. The town has not indicated whether any trail or park access will be restricted during the work.
The town says residents can sign up for its eNewsletters to receive updates on municipal activities, events, programs and operations.
Questions about the project can be directed to the Town of Pelham at 905-892-2607 or through its municipal office at 20 Pelham Town Square in Fonthill.
Pelham is one of Niagara Region's 12 municipalities, sitting between Fonthill, Fenwick and the Wellandport area, and its stormwater ponds help protect local waterways that eventually drain toward Lake Erie and Lake Ontario.
