Pickering tennis players will be off the indoor courts for nearly three weeks this fall, as the City of Pickering shuts down the tennis facilities at Chestnut Hill Developments Recreation Complex for repairs.
The indoor tennis courts will be closed from Monday, October 19 until Friday, November 6, 2026, while the city completes concrete crack and surfacing repairs, according to a City of Pickering notice. The courts are scheduled to reopen on Saturday, November 7.
The closure applies to all indoor tennis courts at the recreation complex, which serves as one of the city's main indoor sport facilities.
What tennis members need to know
Tennis members will not lose time on their memberships. The city said members will receive a membership extension equal to the length of the closure, meaning passes will carry through to cover the roughly three-week shutdown.
Players who have questions about the repairs or their memberships are being directed to the city's Community Services Department. Arisa Marangos, acting senior project manager for capital projects, can be reached at 905-420-4660, extension 5237, or by email at amarangos@pickering.ca.
Residents can also call the city's service disruption line at 1-866-278-9993 for more information.
Why the work is happening
The project involves repairing cracks in the concrete court surface and redoing the surfacing, work the city has scheduled for the fall season. Repairs of this kind typically address wear that builds up in heavy-use indoor courts over time, though the city's notice did not specify the extent of the damage or the cost of the work.
The city did not say whether any other facilities at the Chestnut Hill Developments Recreation Complex will be affected. The notice applies only to the indoor tennis courts.
Anyone who plays at the complex regularly may want to plan around the closure period, as no alternative indoor tennis locations in the city were named in the notice.
Election reminder
The city also used the notice to remind residents that the next municipal election takes place on Monday, October 26, 2026, which falls during the tennis court closure. Election information is available at pickering.ca/vote.
