Peel Regional Police say a man charged with murder in two unprovoked attacks in east Mississauga last month may have targeted other people, and they are asking anyone who crossed paths with him that evening to come forward.
In an update on Thursday, investigators said they are trying to identify another man who may also have been a victim. Police say the accused "had contact" with him before the fatal attack. He is described as white and was wearing a green jacket, blue jeans and a black toque at the time.
What police allege
Police allege that at about 7:40 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 30, a man approached a woman at a commercial plaza near Dundas Street East and Dixie Road and struck her several times with a metal rod. She was taken to hospital, where she died.
Police have said the woman was in a tent in front of an auction store in the plaza, trying to be first in line the following day. She did not know her attacker.
About 10 minutes earlier, investigators allege, the same man struck another man with a metal rod as he waited at a bus stop in the area. That victim, who also did not know the suspect, suffered serious injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
Kent McKerron, 58, was arrested after the attacks and has been charged with second-degree murder and aggravated assault. Police say the motive for the attacks is not known. The charges have not been tested in court.
