The 14th annual Kids Ultimate Challenge has raised a record $173,000 for Niagara Health Foundation's Children's Health Unit, Niagara Daily News reported.
More than 900 children from across the Niagara Region descended on Firemen's Park in Niagara Falls for the event, which sent participants through a muddy, slime-filled obstacle course built to raise both money and awareness for children's health care.
The total marks the highest figure in the fundraiser's 14-year history, surpassing previous editions of the annual challenge.
Funds already going to work
According to organizers, this year's donations are already making a difference at the Children's Health Unit. The money is helping purchase vital equipment and supporting safe starts for newborns across Niagara.
The Children's Health Unit, supported through Niagara Health Foundation, provides care for young patients in the region. Funds from community events like the Kids Ultimate Challenge go toward equipment and programs that benefit families throughout St. Catharines, Niagara Falls, Welland and surrounding communities.
A growing tradition
Over its 14 years, the Kids Ultimate Challenge has become a fixture on the local fundraising calendar, drawing families to Firemen's Park each June for a day that mixes mess, exercise and giving back.
The obstacle course format is part of the draw, with young participants wading through mud and slime on their way to the finish line.
With a record haul in hand, organizers have already confirmed the event will return. The 15th annual Kids Ultimate Challenge is scheduled for June 5, 2027, back at Firemen's Park.
