The Living Arts Centre's monthly film night is back for 2026. REEL Thursdays, a series the City of Mississauga presents with the TIFF Film Circuit, screens the Canadian drama His Father's Son on Thursday, Jan. 8, from 7 to 9 p.m.

Tickets are $13.50 through the Living Arts Centre box office, which can be reached at 905-306-6000.

A family story told in two languages

Written and directed by Meelad Moaphi, His Father's Son follows an Iranian Canadian family in Toronto. Amir, an aspiring chef, is trying to make his own way while living up to the hopes of his parents, Farhad and Arezou. His younger brother, Mahyar, seems to drift through life with far less effort.

The balance shifts when the parents learn that a family friend in Iran has died and left his entire inheritance to Mahyar. According to the city's event listing, the surprise bequest sets off a chain of revelations that change how the brothers see each other and expose truths about the family's past.

The cast includes Alireza Shojaei as Amir, Gus Tayari and Mitra Lohrasb as his parents, Parham Rownaghi as Mahyar, and Romina D'Ugo. The film opened in Toronto and Vancouver in June 2025 after winning an audience award at the Reel Asian International Film Festival. It is presented in Farsi and English, and the city's listing carries an advisory for coarse language.

About the series

REEL Thursdays is part of saugaLIVE, the city's season of live and screen programming at the Living Arts Centre and Meadowvale Theatre. When the city announced the 2025-2026 lineup last June, it described the film nights as monthly screenings of festival favourites from around the world.

The series began on Oct. 9 and runs monthly through May 14, according to Visit Mississauga.

The Living Arts Centre is at 4141 Living Arts Dr., in Mississauga's city centre.
