Peel Regional Police have charged seven Toronto men in connection with a home invasion in Mississauga more than a year ago that left a homeowner dead.

Police said Monday that the arrests followed a complex and lengthy investigation that included canvassing across more than 80 kilometres, forensic analysis and judicial authorizations. A gun was seized during a search.

What happened

In the early morning of Oct. 1, 2024, four masked people entered a home in the area of Central Parkway West and Confederation Parkway, near the City Centre, and confronted the people inside, demanding money and valuables, police said.

One of the homeowners, 55-year-old Ruo Zhou Wei, was shot during the confrontation and later died in hospital. Two other men were taken to hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. The suspects left in a vehicle police later identified as a white Volkswagen Atlas.

The charges

Police have laid the following charges:

  • Sonam Wangchuk, 25, Muhammad Rahimullah, 21, and Tenzin Lama, 21, are each charged with second-degree murder and attempted murder using a firearm.

  • Kang Lu, 69, Kwok Chik, 65, and Xi Chen, 64, are charged with manslaughter.

  • Tenzin Jungney, 21, is charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm, careless storage of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a prohibited device and possession of property obtained by crime.

None of the charges has been tested in court.

Deputy Chief Nick Milinovich said the arrests led to the dismantling of a crime group. He credited investigators and the support of government partners in making sure the case was properly resourced.

These crimes cause profound and lasting trauma for families and undermine our community’s sense of safety. Every resident deserves to feel secure in their home.
