Drivers who travel through downtown Fonthill will need to plan a different route next week. The Town of Pelham has announced a temporary closure at the intersection of Station Street and Summersides Boulevard/Pelham Town Square, beginning Monday, Oct. 20, 2026.
The closure affects one of the main connections into the Pelham Town Square area, a central hub for the community that includes the town's municipal offices at 20 Pelham Town Square.
During the closure, both regular traffic and emergency vehicles should follow the posted detour route, according to a Town of Pelham notice. The town has published a map of the detour so residents can see exactly which streets to use while the intersection is off limits.
No end date for the closure was included in the town's announcement, and the town has not said what work is being done at the intersection. Residents who rely on Station Street or Summersides Boulevard for their daily commute are advised to check the detour map before heading out.
The town is encouraging residents to subscribe to its eNewsletters to stay up to date on its activities, events, programs and operations, including further notices about the closure.
Anyone with questions about the closure can contact the Town of Pelham at 905-892-2607 or through the general inquiry form on the town's website, pelham.ca.
Fonthill is part of the Town of Pelham, which sits in the centre of Niagara Region between St. Catharines, Welland and Thorold. Local drivers who use the area regularly are encouraged to allow extra travel time once the closure takes effect.
