The Brampton Steelheads have named forward Troy Patton as team captain for the 2026-27 Ontario Hockey League season.

The club announced the move on Sept. 18, naming four alternate captains to round out the leadership group: Reed Gee, MacGregor Richmond, Kieran Witkowski and Carter Hicks.

Richmond praises captain's character

Head Coach and General Manager James Richmond, whose comments were published by OurSports Central, said the appointments reflect the makeup of the roster.

"As a staff we are very happy with the character of our group. Troy Patton plays every game with passion and the desire to win. He is a true Leader."

The coach's remarks continued with praise for alternate captain Kieran Witkowski, though the full comments were cut off in the published release.

Steelheads acquire Carcone from London

On the same day, Brampton completed a trade with the London Knights, acquiring forward Geno Carcone in exchange for a fourth-round pick in 2030, according to OurSports Central.

Carcone, 19, joins the Steelheads after three seasons in the USHL, most recently with the Green Bay Gamblers. The 5-foot-9, 190-pound forward recorded 52 points (13 goals, 39 assists) in 58 games during the 2025-26 campaign.

He finished tied for second on the Gamblers in assists and third in team scoring, while compiling 115 points over his time in the league.

Busy off-season of moves

The captaincy announcement and the Carcone trade cap a stretch of significant roster activity for the Brampton club.

On Sept. 11, the Steelheads completed a trade with the Sudbury Wolves, sending the rights to forward Tanner Adams to Sudbury in exchange for 15 draft picks and two league compensatory picks.

The return includes four picks in the 2027 OHL Priority Selection — a second-round pick from Ottawa, a third-round pick from Bradford, a fifth-round pick from Peterborough and a 10th-round pick from Sudbury — plus additional selections in the 2028 draft, beginning with a second-round pick from Windsor.

Adams was Brampton's third-overall pick in the June draft, taken on June 12 before the club added 14 more players on day two of the selection process.

The Steelheads were also active on the international front. In July, the team signed forward Stepan Kuryachenkov, its 68th overall pick in the 2026 CHL Import Draft, to an OHL Scholarship and Development Agreement.

Kuryachenkov, a 6-foot, 176-pound forward from Ufa, Russia, recorded 28 points (12 goals, 16 assists) as a 16-year-old with the WHL's Swift Current Broncos last season.

The club signed several other newcomers to similar agreements over the summer, including Ahmajärvi on July 8, the Collins twins on July 7 and Montanino on July 2, according to OurSports Central.

Brampton opened its regular-season schedule at home against the Oshawa Generals, after releasing its full 2026-27 slate in mid-June. Fans can follow the Steelheads' scores and standings through the OHL season.
