The Brampton Steelheads have traded their leading scorer among defencemen, Jakub Fibigr, to the Windsor Spitfires in exchange for defenceman Carter Hicks and three OHL draft picks.
Windsor News Today reported that the Spitfires announced the deal on their official website Wednesday, Jan. 7. Brampton receives Windsor’s second-round selection in 2026, along with its third- and sixth-round selections in 2029.
The deal brings Hicks to Brampton after a season and a half with Windsor, while sending Fibigr to the Spitfires following his silver-medal appearance with Czechia at the 2026 world junior championship.
Hicks joins Brampton’s defence
Hicks, who is from London, was selected by Windsor in the second round of the 2024 OHL draft.
Over his season and a half with the Spitfires, he recorded six goals and 18 points, along with 51 penalty minutes. He also posted a plus-minus rating of plus-12.
The draft selections coming to Brampton span two draft years. The second-round pick is for this year’s draft, while the third- and sixth-round picks are for 2029.
Fibigr leaves after world junior silver
Fibigr had eight goals and 24 points for the Steelheads so far this season, the highest point total among the team’s defencemen.
Born in Czechia, he was selected by the Steelheads in the 2023 CHL Import Draft, when the franchise was based in Mississauga. He is also a draft pick of the NHL’s Seattle Kraken.
Fibigr represented Czechia at both the 2025 and 2026 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships. He earned a silver medal at the 2026 tournament, which concluded this past weekend in Minneapolis-St. Paul.
For Brampton, the exchange adds Hicks and three future draft selections while removing a defenceman who led the club’s blueline in scoring this season.
The trade was Windsor’s second roster change in a week. The Spitfires are scheduled to host Erie on Thursday night.
