Valentine's Day, the Family Day holiday and the run-up to Lunar New Year on Tuesday, Feb. 17, all land in the same stretch this year, which makes for a full calendar in Markham. Here is a selection of what is on from Thursday, Feb. 12, to Family Day on Monday, Feb. 16. Times and prices come from organizers' listings and can change, so check before you go.

Thursday: Valentine's history at the museum

Markham Museum hosts a Valentine Talk and Tour from 2 to 4 p.m. on Feb. 12. The guided tour covers the history of Valentine's Day and includes hot drinks and a card-making activity. Admission is $25.

Later that evening, Rouge River Brewing Company runs a pop culture trivia night starting at 6:30 p.m. for teams of two to six, at $6 a person.

Friday: live music

Studio 28 in Markham hosts AIAIAI Livehouse, an R&B night with a live band, from 7 to 10:30 p.m. on Feb. 13. Tickets are listed at $33.28. Rouge River Brewery also has live music from Zachary Erikson from 6 to 8 p.m.

Saturday and Sunday: Lunar New Year

Langham Square holds its Lunar New Year Fair on Feb. 14 and 15 from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., with local vendors and festive activities. Entry is free.

On Saturday, Milliken Mills Community Centre hosts a free Chinese Culture Month workshop from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., with cultural talks, traditional Chinese medicine consultations and lucky draws.

Valentine's Day

Couples can try a golf scramble at AK Golf Studio on Friday, Feb. 13, from 8 to 11 p.m., at $100 a couple. Singles have a party at Dopapen Coffee on Saturday from 9 p.m. to midnight, with a $20 cover.

Monday: Family Day

  • Family pickleball drop-in at Mount Joy Sports Dome, 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., $10, all skill levels

  • Family golf scramble for one adult and one child at AK Golf Studio, noon to 2 p.m., $100, with pizza and prizes

  • Chinese New Year's Eve countdown show at First Markham Place, starting at 10:30 p.m., free

Markham Little Theatre's run of The Drowning Girls continues at Flato Markham Theatre through Feb. 14. Mount Joy Sports Dome hosts a free social pickleball night on Sunday from 6:30 to 9 p.m., and the Unionville Arms runs its weekly trivia night on Monday at 7 p.m.
