With Lunar New Year less than two weeks away, Markham's calendar is filling up with markets and cultural events. Here is a selection of what is on from Friday, Feb. 6, to Sunday, Feb. 8. Times and prices are from organizers' listings and can change, so check before you go.

Friday: comedy at the theatre

Girls Nite Out brings comedians Elvira Kurt, Jennine Profeta, Diana Frances and Karen Parker to Flato Markham Theatre, 171 Town Centre Blvd., on Feb. 6 at 8 p.m. Tickets are listed at $58 to $68.

Friday: a day on bikes for women and girls

The SHErides Summit runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Feb. 6 at Joyride150, the indoor bike park in Markham. The full day for women and girls includes skill workshops and group riding. Registration is listed at $129.

Saturday and Sunday: Lunar New Year markets

The Tai Tat Dei Lunar New Year Market sets up at Metro Square, 3636 Steeles Ave. E., on Feb. 7 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Feb. 8 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., with festive food and handmade goods. Admission is free.

Younger sellers get their turn at the Junior Lunar New Year Market at Milliken Community Centre on Feb. 7 from 1:30 to 5 p.m. Organizers list 25 vendors, a craft table for children and a lucky draw. It is free to attend.

Saturday: shopping on Gibson Drive

The Red Romance Market, which pairs Valentine's Day and Lunar New Year with handmade gifts, runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Feb. 7 at 105 Gibson Centre. At the same address, the 105 Gibson thrift store's winter sale runs Feb. 4 to 7 from noon to 4 p.m., with buy-one-get-one-free deals on clothing, shoes, bags and jewellery.

Saturday and Sunday: a trading card show

Collectors can browse sports cards, Pokémon and other trading card games at the GTA Card Show at The Colosseum Markham, 7261 Victoria Park Ave., on Feb. 7 and 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Entry is free.

Saturday night: an orchestra at the theatre

The Kindred Spirits Orchestra presents Operatic Rhapsodies at Flato Markham Theatre on Feb. 7 at 8 p.m., with works by Ravel, Debussy and Strauss. Tickets are listed at $25 to $50.

Sunday: learn a Lunar New Year dance

Markham Public Library's Milliken Mills branch hosts a Lunar New Year dance performance followed by a beginner-friendly lesson on Feb. 8 from 1 to 2 p.m. The program is free.
