Family Day is Monday, Feb. 16, and the City of Mississauga has a long list of free things to do across the city from Saturday through Monday. Here is what's on in the neighbourhoods, plus what will be closed on the holiday.

Free drop-ins at community centres

On Feb. 14, 15 and 16, community centres are offering free drop-in swimming, skating, dance, art, sport and fitness programs. Some arenas have stick-and-puck time for anyone who wants to practise hockey skills. Spots are first come, first served, so check the schedule for your local centre and arrive early.

Snow Day at Bradley Museum

On Saturday, Feb. 14, the grounds of Bradley Museum on Orr Road become a winter play area. Admission is free, with snowshoeing and snow games if conditions allow, outdoor games, simple crafts and hot chocolate. The city recommends registering in advance but says it isn't required. Parking is available at the museum, on Orr Road where legal and at nearby Meadowwood Park.

Family time at the library

Mississauga Library branches have free drop-in programs on Saturday, Feb. 14, including story time, large-scale LEGO building, board games and hands-on activities for all ages. Libraries will be closed on Monday.

Outdoor skating and tobogganing

  • Skate the trail at Port Credit Memorial Park or one of the city's outdoor rinks

  • Go tobogganing on any of the city's six designated hills

  • Walk the city's parks and trails

Stay off natural ice. The city warns that ice on lakes, ponds, rivers and creeks can break even when it looks thick, especially as temperatures change, and that ice near the shore is especially weak.

What's closed on Monday

On Feb. 16, City Hall, the Ontario Courthouse downtown, the 311 Citizen Contact Centre, the clerk's office, all Mississauga libraries, city museums and some community centres will be closed. Check the city's holiday hours page before heading out.
