The first weekend of 2026 brings cold weather and plenty of reasons to get out of the house in Mississauga, from the city's largest outdoor rink to professional basketball at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre. Here is what's on.

Skate downtown or by the water

Mississauga Celebration Square, at 300 City Centre Dr., is home to the city's largest outdoor ice rink, with skate rentals and sharpening available on site. The rink can close temporarily during heavy snow or warmer weather, so the city asks skaters to confirm it is open by calling 905-615-3200, ext. 7465 (R-I-N-K).

The city also runs outdoor rinks at the Port Credit Memorial Park Skating Trail, a 200-metre trail at 40 Stavebank Rd. with views of the Credit River, and at Woodhurst Heights, 3475 Ash Row Cres. Volunteer-run natural rinks in neighbourhood parks open in late December or January, depending on the weather, and the city's find-a-park tool shows where they are.

Raptors 905 on home court

Raptors 905, the Toronto Raptors' NBA G League affiliate, host the San Diego Clippers on Friday, Jan. 2, at the Paramount Fine Foods Centre. The team plays at home again on Tuesday, Jan. 6, at 7:30 p.m.

Last days for an AGM spotlight

The Art Gallery of Mississauga's Spotlight on the Permanent Collection, a rotating exhibition of works by Mississauga artists from the gallery's collection, is featuring Don Carr until Jan. 11. Admission is free, and the gallery at 300 City Centre Dr. is open from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

Look up for the Wolf Moon

January's full moon, the Wolf Moon, is also the first supermoon of 2026. It reaches peak illumination at 5:03 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 3, but will look full from Friday through Sunday night. Moonrise in the GTA is at 3:48 p.m. Friday, 5:06 p.m. Saturday and 6:27 p.m. Sunday, according to Time and Date figures reported by insauga. With cloud in the forecast for Friday and Saturday, Sunday may offer the clearest view. The next supermoon is not until Nov. 24.

Plan ahead
