A 35-year-old Toronto man is facing stolen vehicle and drug charges after Durham police tracked a stolen SUV to a Pickering intersection last week.
Durham Regional Police said officers from West Division responded to an assist-police call about a stolen vehicle in Pickering on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at approximately 4:30 p.m. At the same time, police received reports that a white Genesis SUV was being driven dangerously and at high speeds.
Officers found the vehicle parked in the area of Liverpool Road and Kingston Road. The driver was seen getting out of the SUV and was taken into custody without incident, according to police.
A search of the suspect turned up a quantity of cocaine, police said.
Investigators later determined the vehicle had previously been towed to what was believed to be an auto repair business in Georgina, Ontario. Police said the owner reported the vehicle stolen after going to the location and finding that no such business existed there.
Nithoosan Selvakumar, 35, of Toronto is charged with dangerous operation, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, obstructing a peace officer, possession of a Schedule I substance (cocaine), driving a motor vehicle with an open container of liquor, and driving while suspended.
Police are asking anyone with cellphone, dash cam or surveillance footage, or information about the incident, to contact Const. Williamson of West Division at 1-888-579-1520, ext. 1901.
Anonymous tips can be submitted to Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at durhamregionalcrimestoppers.ca, and tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward.
Durham Regional Police noted the allegations have not yet been proven in court.
