An investigation into organized street racing in Peel Region has led to the arrest of a Toronto man and the seizure of a vehicle, Peel Regional Police said.

Ethan Tolander, 25, faces five counts of possession of property obtained by crime. The charges were laid by investigators with the force’s Safer Roads Team following a search of a Toronto residence.

According to police, officers investigating under Project ERASE identified a suspect driving a blue BMW 340i at several illegal street races earlier this year.

Investigators executed a Criminal Code search warrant at the residence on Oct. 1 and arrested Tolander. Officers seized a blue BMW 340i and other items that police described as evidence connected to the investigation.

Tolander was held for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.

The five property-related counts are the only charges listed in the police release. Police said the investigation is continuing and further charges could follow.

Enforcement and reporting dangerous driving

Project ERASE, short for Eliminating Racing Activities on Streets Everywhere, is a province-wide initiative focused on street racing, stunt driving and illegal car rallies.

The initiative operates in partnership with police services across the Greater Toronto Area. It includes an annual joint enforcement effort in May and June, while Peel police carry out enforcement throughout the year.

Anyone with information about this investigation is asked to contact the Safer Roads Team at 905-453-2121, ext. 3730.

Police also encourage residents to report dangerous driving through the online Road Watch program. Photos and videos of dangerous driving incidents can be provided through the force’s evidence submission portal.

If dangerous driving presents an immediate threat to public safety, police advise calling 911.
