A 37-year-old Toronto man died on Saturday, Feb. 14, after his disabled car was struck by a fuel tanker truck on Highway 407 in Markham, Ontario Provincial Police say.

The crash happened at about 1:40 p.m. in the westbound lanes near Leslie Street, close to the Highway 404 interchange. Police say the man's car had broken down in a live lane when the tractor-trailer hit it and pushed it onto the right shoulder.

The man, the only person in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver was not hurt.

Westbound lanes closed for hours

Police closed the westbound 407 at Highway 404 while technical collision investigators and a reconstructionist examined the scene. All westbound traffic approaching the interchange was forced off onto Highway 404, north or south, and the ramps from both directions of Highway 404 to the westbound 407 were closed. Eastbound lanes were not affected.

Vehicle disabled in a live lane was struck by a transport truck. Expect the closure to remain in place for several hours.
