Toronto subway riders travelling late at night will need to switch to shuttle buses on parts of Lines 1 and 2 during planned closures from Oct. 5 to 9. The shutdowns affect the sections between York Mills and Eglinton stations, and between Kipling and Jane stations.
According to a TTC service notice, the early closures will allow crews to carry out track maintenance and upgrade drainage, signals and communications equipment. The two affected sections have different closure times and schedules.
Line 1: York Mills to Eglinton
On Line 1 Yonge-University, subway service between York Mills and Eglinton will stop at 11 p.m. each night from Monday, Oct. 5, through Wednesday, Oct. 7.
Frequent shuttle buses will run between the stations. TTC staff will be available to help riders, and Wheel-Trans service will be available on request.
The Ranleigh and Bedford Park entrances at Lawrence Station will be closed. The TTC says other stations will remain open so customers can buy or load PRESTO cards, purchase PRESTO Tickets and connect with surface routes.
Crews will perform planned maintenance and install communications cables as part of upgrades to the subway and its communications network. They will also install and connect drainage equipment at track level, which the TTC says will help prevent water accumulation and protect infrastructure.
Line 2: Kipling to Jane
On Line 2 Bloor-Danforth, subway service between Kipling and Jane will end at 11:59 p.m. each night from Monday, Oct. 5, through Friday, Oct. 9.
Shuttle buses will operate frequently between stations on this section as well. Staff assistance and Wheel-Trans service on request will also be available.
The Grenview entrance at Royal York Station will be closed. Other stations will remain open for fare purchases, PRESTO card loading and connections to surface routes.
The work includes track maintenance near Islington Station and track switch upgrades near Kipling Station. Crews will also continue installing and testing communications and signal equipment between Islington and Royal York, and between Old Mill and Jane.
The TTC says the Line 2 work is intended to improve travel times, make rides smoother and modernize the system. Riders can check TTC service notices or eAlerts for updates and use the Transit app for real-time journey planning.
