Two people died and three others were injured in a crash on Highway 401 near Dixie Road in Mississauga on Wednesday morning, provincial police said. The affected eastbound sections have since reopened after being closed for several hours.
The collision happened shortly before 9 a.m. on July 15 in the highway’s eastbound express lanes, according to a Canadian Press report published by CHCH.
Police said a 53-year-old woman and an 80-year-old man were pronounced dead at the scene. Both were from Cambridge, Ont.
Three other people were taken to hospital with injuries police described as non-life-threatening.
Parts of the eastbound highway remained closed for several hours following the collision. Police said those sections had reopened.
Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the collision to contact police.
