Two males have been charged with second-degree murder in the 2023 shooting death of 17-year-old Anthony Dixon at a housing complex on Kingston Road in Pickering.
Durham Regional Police said homicide investigators identified two suspects following a lengthy investigation, and both were taken into custody on August 25 and August 26, 2026. One of the accused cannot be named because they were a youth at the time of the alleged offence and are protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
What Happened in 2023
According to Durham Regional Police, officers from West Division were called to a housing complex at 1580 Kingston Road just before 9:40 p.m. on Sunday, June 18, 2023, after reports of a shooting.
When officers arrived, they found a male suffering from gunshot wounds. Police and paramedics attempted life-saving measures, but the victim died at the scene. He was later identified as Anthony Dixon, 17.
In the original release issued the following day, police said the shots were believed to have been fired from a vehicle that fled the area. At the time, the number of suspects involved was unknown, though investigators said they did not believe there was any further threat to public safety.
The Accused
Fawaz Sheikh, 22, of Ajax, is charged with second-degree murder. A 19-year-old male from Pickering is also charged with second-degree murder. His identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act because he was a youth when the alleged offence occurred.
