Two Whitby residents face firearm charges after investigators arrested them near Dundas Street East and Garden Street and recovered a loaded firearm, Durham Regional Police said.
Police said their Gun and Gang Unit concluded an investigation on Sept. 30, 2026, into a man and woman believed to have a firearm. Investigators located both suspects in the area and took them into custody without incident.
According to police, a search of the suspects uncovered a loaded firearm equipped with a prohibited over-capacity magazine.
Isaiah Annis, 22, of Whitby, is charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a prohibited device, possession of a loaded firearm in a vehicle and possession of a loaded firearm. He also faces three counts of failing to comply with a release order.
Police said Annis was subject to conditions at the time of his arrest that barred him from possessing weapons or cellphones and required him to stay at his residence at all times.
Ajonnah-Destiny Collins-Obrien, 19, of Whitby, is charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, unauthorized possession of a prohibited device, possession of a loaded firearm in a vehicle and possession of a loaded firearm.
The allegations have not been proven in court.
