A 24-year-old man from the United Kingdom has been arrested and charged in connection with an armed carjacking in Mississauga that dates back to February 2025, Peel Regional Police said.
The arrest ended a search that stretched across borders and more than 17 months.
What happened in February 2025
On Feb. 4, 2025, at about 4:30 p.m., a driver was parked in his commercial vehicle near Torbram Road and Derry Road East. According to Peel Regional Police, two masked suspects armed with handguns approached him.
The suspects allegedly pointed the firearms at the victim and forced him out of the vehicle at gunpoint before taking the truck.
Suspect fled the country
Investigators from the Central Robbery Bureau later identified Raheem Hartley, a resident of the United Kingdom, as one of the people they believe was responsible for the carjacking, Peel Regional Police said.
Police determined Hartley had left Canada shortly after the incident. A Canada-wide warrant for his arrest was issued in December 2025.
Arrest at the airport
On July 16, Hartley arrived in Toronto on an international flight and was arrested when the plane landed. He has been charged in connection with the carjacking.
The 24-year-old was held for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice.
No details about the second masked suspect, or about the recovery of the stolen commercial vehicle, have been released by investigators. Police have not said what specific charges Hartley faces.
Appeal for information
Anyone with information about the investigation is asked to contact the Central Robbery Bureau at 905-453-2121, ext. 3410.
Hartley remains before the courts, and the allegations against him have not yet been tested.
