Wasaga Beach to host GMHL All-Star Event Jan. 13 at Wasaga Stars Arena

Wasaga Beach will host the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League's 2026 All-Star Event on Tuesday, Jan. 13, from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Wasaga Stars Arena on River Road West.

The evening includes three parts: the Prospects Game, the GMHL Skills Competition and the All-Star Game, with the all-star puck drop scheduled for 8 p.m., according to a Town of Wasaga Beach news release.

The host Wasaga River Dragons will be front and centre. Six players were selected to the All-Star Game and another six to the Prospects (U18) Game, giving the club 12 participants — the most of any single team in the league.

The event also marks the GMHL's 20th anniversary.

In just a few short years, the Wasaga River Dragons have become an important part of our community.

Mayor Brian Smith, quoted in the release, said the team has energized the arena and created chances for residents of all ages to support local junior hockey.

Hosting the GMHL All-Star Event is a proud moment for Wasaga Beach and supports our ongoing efforts to grow sports tourism and create shared experiences that bring people together.

The River Dragons arrived in Wasaga Beach in 2024 and have built a loyal following, averaging more than 500 spectators per home game. The release says players and staff have also volunteered at community events, including the Mayor's Charity RAM Rodeo and the Santa Claus Parade, while supporting local charities, schools and service clubs.

Team owner Brandon Billie said the event reflects the partnership between the team, the town and the community.

From day one, this community has supported our players and organization. This event allows us to give back, celebrate the league's 20th anniversary, and showcase the incredible atmosphere and community pride that make Wasaga Beach such a special place for junior hockey.

Tickets will be sold at the door on the day of the event only. A single ticket covers all three events — the Prospects Game, the Skills Competition and the All-Star Game.
