Riders on York Region Transit's 2 Milliken route in Markham are getting a longer route and shorter waits as YRT's winter service changes take effect.
YRT's changes start Sunday, Jan. 4. Because the 2 Milliken extension runs on weekdays only, riders will first see it on Monday, Jan. 5.
Three new stops
The route is being extended along Kirkham Drive, with three new stops:
Denison Street at Andress Way
Kirkham Drive at Mohandas Drive
Kirkham Drive at Bousfield Gate
YRT says weekend service on the extension is planned to begin in September 2026.
Buses more often
YRT is also improving how often buses run on the route on weekdays. Buses will come:
Every 21 minutes instead of every 22 in the early morning and the morning rush hour
Every 35 minutes instead of every 42 at midday
Every 23 minutes instead of every 25 in the afternoon rush hour
Every 40 minutes instead of every 53 in the early and late evening
First and last trips are also being adjusted.
Other Markham-area changes
On Viva purple, which runs along Highway 7, schedules are being adjusted to better reflect on-street conditions, with no change to how often buses run.
On the 1 Highway 7 route, eastbound trips that used to begin at Cochrane Drive and Highway 7 will now start at Highway 7 and Commerce Valley Drive. YRT says riders who normally board at the Cochrane Drive stop should use the Highway 7 and Cochrane Drive stop instead.
YRT's next round of service changes is scheduled for April 26, 2026. Updated schedules are available in the agency's trip planner.
