Ottawa police are asking families to keep safety top of mind as trick-or-treaters get ready to hit neighbourhood streets this Halloween.
The Ottawa Police Service issued the reminder in a news release Tuesday morning, encouraging families and communities to think about safety tips so the night of trick-or-treating stays fun and exciting.
"Remember to stay safe, be aware, and look out for one another. Happy Halloween!" the release said.
Ways to help year-round
Beyond the Halloween message, the release pointed residents to tools the service says can help make communities safer.
Through its Community Safety Data portal, members of the public can view, download and interact with data released by the Ottawa Police Service, according to an Oct. 20 news release from the Ottawa Police Service. The portal is available at data.ottawapolice.ca.
The service is also encouraging residents to register their information and security camera locations at CAMSafe.ca, a program described in the release as a way to help make communities safer and support police investigations.
Residents with non-emergency matters can reach the Ottawa Police Service at 613-236-1222.
Staying connected
The Ottawa Police Service also posts updates and safety information on its social media accounts, including Facebook, Bluesky, X and Instagram, the release noted.
Halloween falls on Saturday, Oct. 31, and trick-or-treating traditionally draws large numbers of children onto residential sidewalks after dark. Ottawa police are asking drivers and residents to do their part by watching out for one another throughout the evening.
