Electricity has been restored to all Barrie customers affected by an overnight thunderstorm that at its height cut power to more than 4,000 homes and businesses, Alectra Utilities says.
The utility confirmed Wednesday afternoon that service was back for everyone who lost power, and asked any customers still in the dark to call 1-833-ALECTRA.
What happened overnight
The storm moved through the Barrie area overnight and knocked out power to a large section of the city. According to Alectra Utilities, just over 4,000 customers were without service at around 5 a.m., when the outage was at its worst.
By mid-morning, crews had brought that number down significantly. Alectra reported that nearly 1,200 residents and businesses — about 1,172 customers — were still without power as of 10 a.m.
The utility had estimated that full restoration would happen between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Wednesday, and confirmed just after 4 p.m. that all affected customers were back online.
Alectra crews worked through the morning to repair damage to the system caused by the storm, which the utility said affected equipment across the city.
What customers can do
Anyone still experiencing an outage should contact Alectra directly at 1-833-ALECTRA rather than assume the utility already knows, according to Alectra Utilities.
The utility also maintains an online outage map where residents can track reported outages and estimated restoration times across the city.
