Australian stand-up comedian Rhys Nicholson is bringing the Huge Big Party Congratulations tour to Flato Markham Theatre this weekend, giving Markham audiences a chance to see an internationally touring comic without heading downtown.
The show is on Saturday, Jan. 24, at 8 p.m. at the theatre, 171 Town Centre Blvd. Tickets are sold through the Flato Markham Theatre box office.
What the show covers
According to the theatre's January preview, the hour takes in marriage, the decision not to have children, the Titanic submersible disaster and a questionable side hustle from Nicholson's teenage years.
The tour comes to Canada after runs across Australia and at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Nicholson has appeared on Netflix and Prime Video, the Just for Laughs galas, RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under, Taskmaster and Conan O'Brien's show.
More on the January calendar
The comedy night follows Ballet Jörgen's A Midsummer Night's Dream on the same stage the night before. The theatre's January program continues the next week with three-time Juno Award winner Andy Milne and his piano trio Unison on Jan. 29. Milne has been at the forefront of creative jazz for more than 30 years. On Jan. 30, Tina: Better Be Good To Me, starring Canadian theatre performer Tiffany Deriveau, covers music from Tina Turner's 50-year career, and the Grand Shanghai Circus closes the month on Jan. 31 with a family show of acrobatics.
As with any Saturday night out in January, audiences should allow extra time for winter driving and parking.
