The Flato Markham Theatre has set its February lineup, with comedy, a one-man show by a well-known Canadian actor and two very different music acts. The shows are part of the theatre’s 2025-26 Diamond season, which marks its 40th anniversary.

We can’t wait for the second half of our 40th anniversary season.

The headliners

The month opens on Feb. 6 with Girls Nite Out, a comedy show that proved popular with Markham audiences last season. Elvira Kurt, Jennine Profeta, Diana Frances and Karen Parker mix stand-up, improv and audience interaction with observations on relationships, work and modern life. Hill said the show is for everyone despite its title.

On Feb. 25, Canadian actor Saul Rubinek brings Playing Shylock, a one-man show about Shakespeare’s most debated character. The piece moves between personal reflection, literary analysis and performance, and looks at what it means to take on a role that has prompted centuries of argument about antisemitism, power and representation.

What an amazing opportunity to see a master work. It’s powerful, wonderful, and funny.

South African singer Nomfusi follows on Feb. 27. Her music blends Afro-soul, jazz, gospel and traditional rhythms, and she has built an international following. Hill called her a dynamo.

The Diamond season’s February run closes on Feb. 28 with The Lightfoot Band, made up of the original touring musicians who played alongside Gordon Lightfoot for decades. Hill said audiences pressed for the group’s return after its previous show at the theatre.

Community and independent shows

  • Feb. 7: Kindred Spirits Orchestra, Operatic Rhapsodies.

  • Feb. 19 to 22: Unionville Theatre Company, Matilda The Musical.

  • Feb. 24: Markham at the Movies presents It Was Just An Accident.

  • Feb. 26: Epic Eagles, a recreation of the Eagles’ greatest hits.

  • March 1: Markham Concert Band, It’s All About the Jazz.

Hill said community producers are an important part of the theatre’s work and that it is rewarding to see the same groups return each year with more ambitious shows. Tickets and show times are at markhamtheatre.ca.
