Markham residents heading to the city's first Indy weekend will get a full rock show with their race tickets. Canadian rock band The Glorious Sons will perform at the inaugural Ontario Honda Dealers Indy at Markham on Saturday, Aug. 15, with the concert presented by SiriusXM Canada and included in the price of admission.
According to a news release from the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy at Markham, the performance begins at approximately 6:20 p.m., about 15 minutes after the finish of Saturday's headlining NASCAR Canada Series race. The show takes place on the SiriusXM Stage in the 407 ETR Thunder Alley, capping a day that also includes qualifying for the NTT INDYCAR SERIES on the temporary Markham street circuit.
Admission to the concert is included for both 2-Day and Saturday Single Day ticket holders. Two-day general admission tickets are priced at $90, while a Saturday single-day ticket costs $50. Limited reserved grandstand seats remain available around the 12-turn, 3.52-kilometre (2.19-mile) temporary circuit, which runs through downtown Markham streets.
"Bringing an iconic band like The Glorious Sons onto our weekend schedule is an absolute honour," said Jeff Atkinson, president of the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy at Markham, in the release. "For the price of a standard Saturday ticket, fans get four races, INDYCAR qualifying, and a world-class rock show. Upgrading to a full weekend pass is hands-down the best way to catch all the action."
The Glorious Sons, formed in Kingston in 2011, are multiple-time JUNO Award winners with four full-length albums to their name, including the Platinum-certified "Young Beauties and Fools" and the Gold-certified "The Union" and "A War On Everything." The band has surpassed 450 million global streams on the strength of hits such as "S.O.S. (Sawed Off Shotgun)," "Everything Is Alright," "Heavy," "Panic Attack" and "Mama."
Full weekend of racing
The concert anchors a weekend that marks the NTT INDYCAR SERIES' debut race in Markham on Sunday, Aug. 16. Fans will see five series compete in eight races over the festival weekend, including double-headers from USF Pro 2000 Presented by Continental Tire, USF2000 Presented by Continental Tire and the Emzone Radical Cup Canada presented by Michelin.
The event is the sole Canadian stop on the NTT INDYCAR SERIES calendar, featuring drivers such as Alex Palou, Josef Newgarden, Pato O'Ward and Kyle Kirkwood racing for teams including Chip Ganassi Racing, Team Penske, Arrow McLaren and Andretti Global.
The weekend also includes Free Fan Friday, with general admission courtesy of the Ontario Honda Dealers Association through a voluntary donation to Make-A-Wish Canada. The event has raised more than $1.1 million for the charity since 2010, the release said.
Two-day and single-day reserved grandstand and general admission tickets are now available at hondaindy.com. Beyond the racing, the festival features food trucks, interactive displays and family activities, and supports local charities.
