A Markham conference marking International Women's Day is coming back for a fifth year, and organizers are now taking registrations and vendor bookings.
The conference, run by Authentically Evolving, takes place on Saturday, March 7, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Rouge River Community Centre, 120 Rouge Bank Dr. International Women's Day itself falls the following day, March 8.
A full day of programming
Organizers describe the event as a day of learning, networking and community-building for local women. The program includes:
Talks by guest speakers
A fashion show by Eleven Joseph Fashions
Salsa dancing
A buffet lunch and time set aside for networking
A marketplace of up to 15 vendors, including jewellers, artisans, food vendors and service providers
Sylvia Calleri, a professional speaker and certified life mastery consultant who offers coaching, workshops and retreats for women, said the speakers push attendees to take practical next steps.
Their lessons and personal stories resonate with many women who may be in the same situation and help them know that they are not alone. Attendees walk away with a sense of belonging and community.
— Sylvia Calleri, as quoted by the Markham Review
Supporting single mothers in business
Part of the money from ticket sales will go to SoloMama LaunchPad, a non-profit that helps single mothers start their own businesses.
Vendor spots
Local businesses can also take part as vendors. A community events guide published this week lists vendor packages at $279, which include one conference ticket with lunch, a six-foot table and a mention in the event brochure. The marketplace is limited to 15 vendors.
