Toronto-area families will have several places to take part in Ontario Science Centre activities this March Break, with programming at Harbourfront Centre and the Toronto Zoo between March 14 and 22.

An Ontario Science Centre news release issued March 9 outlines wildlife activities for younger children, evening drop-off programs focused on the human heart and a lunar challenge spread across zoo pavilions. The Science Centre is also bringing animal camouflage activities to London Children’s Museum.

Wildlife activities at KidSpark

At KidSpark at Harbourfront Centre, children aged 10 and under can explore an interactive space with a pretend supermarket, a veterinary clinic for stuffed animals and a fishing activity.

From Monday, March 16, through Sunday, March 22, additional programming will focus on the biodiversity of Ontario wildlife. The Science Centre says the activities will include animal meet-and-greets, specimens visitors can touch and opportunities to learn about the wilderness.

Those activities are scheduled for 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. each day and are included with KidSpark admission. Admission costs $15 per person, including tax, while children aged two and under enter free.

Evening science programs for children

Harbourfront Centre will also host Kids’ Night Out on Saturday, March 14, and Saturday, March 21. Both sessions run from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. and are for children aged five to 12.

The drop-off programs, held without accompanying grown-ups, will feature hands-on activities led by Ontario Science Centre experts. Participants will explore how the heart works, learn about its anatomy and try some of the tools doctors use.

Information about registering for the drop-off programs, as well as KidSpark operating hours and group visits, is available on the Science Centre’s website.

Pop-ups at the zoo and in London

The Toronto Zoo’s March Break Moon Mission will run on Monday, March 16, Wednesday, March 18, and Friday, March 20, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Visitors can work through lunar challenges at three interactive stations in zoo pavilions. Each stop provides codes needed to open a safe and find out what is inside. Participation is included with zoo admission.

At London Children’s Museum, Science Centre programming will examine animal camouflage and patterns in nature on Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Visitors can also add paper butterflies, bees, birds and insects to a large pollinator garden. Those activities are included with admission to the museum.
