Orillia voters will choose a mayor, ward councillors and school board trustees when the city's municipal and school board election wraps up on Monday, Oct. 26.
Advance voting is already underway, with three more opportunities for electors to cast ballots before Election Day, according to a City of Orillia news release issued Oct. 15. As of the release, 1,637 voters had already cast their ballots.
Eligible electors may vote for up to one mayor, up to two ward councillors and up to one school board trustee, where applicable. The City is encouraging voters to bring identification showing their name and qualifying address to help streamline the process.
On Election Day, electors will vote at the location designated for their ward. The City has four voting locations, all open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. An interactive ward map is available through orillia.ca/election so voters can confirm their ward and where to go.
Accessible ballot marking devices will be available at every voting location, allowing electors with accessibility needs to mark their ballots independently.
The City is also reminding residents that campaign materials — including shirts, buttons and signs — are not permitted on voting location property.
Election Express bus
Getting to the polls will be free on Election Day. The Election Express, a fully accessible, full-sized Orillia Transit bus, will carry voters from the downtown terminal to all four voting locations.
The bus begins service at 10 a.m. and departs the terminal hourly. The final departure, at 8 p.m., will be for pickups only. The schedule is posted at orillia.ca/election, though the City notes times are estimates and may vary due to traffic, weather and other conditions.
Voters wanting to know the bus's location or expected arrival time at a specific voting location can contact TOK dispatch directly at 705-326-8300.
The Orillia Wheelchair Limousine Service, known as OWLS, may have limited availability during advance voting and on Election Day. The City is encouraging voters who need the service to book early by calling 705-327-0411.
When results will be available
Ballots will be tallied as they arrive from the voting locations on Election Day. Unofficial results will be posted at orillia.ca/election and displayed at the Orillia City Centre Council Chamber as soon as possible after polls close at 8 p.m.
