City expands snack program to every CampTO location
Toronto's summer camps are now open, and every camper will get something extra this year: a free, nutritious mid-morning snack.
Up to 115,000 children enrolled in the City of Toronto's CampTO recreation program will receive the snack each camp day this summer, according to a City of Toronto news release. The program launched its 2026 season on June 29, the release's first official day of camp.
Mayor Olivia Chow marked the opening day with a visit to Parkway Forest Community Centre, where she joined campers for snack time.
Pilot expanded after last year's success
The snack program builds on a pilot that ran last summer. The City has now expanded it to all CampTO locations, backed by a $500,000 investment in the 2026 Operating Budget.
City officials say the goal is to improve food security for families and ease pressure from the rising cost of living while keeping children energized through the camp day.
"Every child deserves a great summer. When children have access to healthy food, they can learn, play and engage. That's why I'm proud that every child enrolled in the City's CampTO programs will receive a free, nutritious snack this summer. By investing in free recreation and nutritious food, we're helping families with the cost of living while making sure every child has a fair opportunity to participate, stay energized and enjoy everything CampTO has to offer."
The statement came from Mayor Chow in a City of Toronto news release.
Camps run through late August
CampTO runs from late June through the end of August, offering recreation programs for children and youth ages four to 16 in neighbourhoods across Toronto.
The City describes the camps as safe, welcoming and inclusive spaces where participants can stay active, learn new skills and build friendships.
Toronto is also an Official Host City for the FIFA World Cup 2026 this summer, an event expected to draw visitors to the city while local recreation programs run alongside it.
Families can find program details and registration information on the City of Toronto's CampTO webpage.
