A walkway leading to the south entrance of Pickering's Chestnut Hill Developments Recreation Complex will be closed for a full day next week while the City prepares to replace a lamp post.
According to a City of Pickering notice, the walkway from Diefenbaker Court to the complex's south entrance will be off limits on Wednesday, November 4, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The closure will allow for construction work and preparation ahead of the lamp post replacement.
The closure affects only the walkway itself. The City says there will be no traffic or parking disruptions during the work, so visitors driving to the complex on Diefenbaker Court should be able to park and access the facility as usual through other entrances.
What residents should know
Anyone heading to the Recreation Complex on November 4 — whether for a swim, a program or a rental — should plan for the south entrance walkway to be unavailable for the full 10-hour window. Pedestrians who normally cut through from Diefenbaker Court will need to use an alternate route to reach the building.
The City has posted a service announcement with a location map showing exactly which section of walkway is affected. Residents can view the notice through the City's website.
Who to contact
Questions about the closure can be directed to Aidan Kuntzie, Supervisor of Mechanical Systems with the City's Community Services Department, at 905.831.1711, extension 3250, or by email at akuntzie@pickering.ca.
Residents can also call the City's Service Disruption Line at 1.866.278.9993 for more information.
The closure is expected to last only the one day, with the walkway reopening once the preparation work is complete. The lamp post replacement itself is part of the City's ongoing maintenance of the recreation complex grounds.
