Several City of Mississauga consultations and nomination calls opened or are under way in mid-January. Here are four worth knowing about.

1. Weigh in on the 2026 budget

Council's Budget Committee is reviewing the proposed 2026 budget at City Hall, 300 City Centre Dr. Residents can register in advance to speak at the remaining sessions, on Tuesday, Jan. 13 at 6 p.m. and Tuesday, Jan. 20 at 9:30 a.m. Meetings are also streamed live. Feedback can be emailed to budget@mississauga.ca, sent to the mayor or a ward councillor, or given by calling 311. Staff told the committee that amendments can be made until Feb. 4.

2. Help shape a greener Malton

The Malton Sustainable Neighbourhood Action Plan covers all residential areas in Malton and two nearby employment areas. The city, the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority, Peel Region and local groups want to hear what matters most to residents, from parks and trees to trails, waste bins and safety. The survey takes about 10 minutes, and the city's notice lists a Jan. 31 deadline.

3. Share your team sports story

University of Toronto students working with the Museums of Mississauga are building an exhibition at the historic Adamson Estate about how team sports build community. Athletes, coaches, referees and fans can share their experiences in an online survey. Selected stories will appear in the exhibition as submitted and stay anonymous unless the writer chooses otherwise.

4. Nominate someone for a Black Excellence Award

Nominations for the city's fourth annual Black Excellence Awards, presented with the Black Caucus Alliance, are open until Feb. 13. The awards recognize the work of Mississauga's Black residents and volunteers in nine categories: youth, business, community service, education, health services, arts and culture, sports, hospitality and food services, and a legacy award for lifetime achievement. Nominees must live or work in Mississauga. Nominations go by email to BlackExcellenceAwards@mississauga.ca, and winners will be honoured at City Hall on Friday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m.
