Welland residents can collect free tulip bulbs for their home gardens this Friday, May 15, when the city holds its annual giveaway at the Welland Sports Complex on Quaker Road.
The giveaway begins at 8 a.m., Niagara Daily News reported. Bulbs will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, and the event will continue only while supplies last.
The bulbs come from the city’s parks and boulevards, where crews replace tulips each year as part of seasonal maintenance.
Rather than discard the bulbs removed from those public spaces, the city packages them for residents to take home and replant. The annual event gives the bulbs another use in local gardens.
For residents planning to attend, the key details are the Friday morning start and the limited supply: distribution is based on arrival order, rather than continuing until a fixed closing time.
