Durham Region Transit riders on Route 227 should plan for extra travel time after the route was placed on a detour effective October 30, 2026, until further notice.
According to Durham Region Transit, the route is being redirected via Shoal Point Road, Bayly Street and Pickering Beach Road, and customers should expect delays of up to 10 minutes.
The detour means some stops will not be served while it is in place. All stops on Range Line Road will be skipped, as well as stop #94290 on Pickering Beach Road southbound at Dreyer.
To help riders affected by the closed stops, DRT says a temporary stop will be placed on Dreyer Drive, eastbound at Pickering Beach Road.
Route 227 operates in the Ajax area, and the detour affects riders travelling through the Pickering Beach Road and Bayly Street corridors, including Whitby residents who use DRT service to connect to jobs, schools and appointments elsewhere in the region.
DRT has not said how long the detour will last, noting only that it will remain in effect until further notice. Riders are advised to check their trip plans before travelling, as the routing and stop changes apply to every trip on the route while the detour is active.
Customers with questions or concerns about the detour can contact Durham Region Transit at 1-866-247-0055, or through the agency's customer comment form.
Transit riders looking for the most current service updates can watch for further notices from DRT, which posts detour and disruption information as routes and road conditions change.
