A pedestrian is fighting for his life in hospital after being struck by a car in Burlington on Wednesday night, according to Halton Regional Police Service.
Police were called to Mainway near Walkers Line at approximately 7:38 p.m. on October 22, 2026. Halton Regional Police Service said the pedestrian was crossing Mainway when he was hit by a westbound black Hyundai Elantra.
The injured man was transported to Hamilton General Hospital with what police described as life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Hyundai remained at the scene and is co-operating with the police investigation, police said.
Because of the seriousness of the man's injuries, the Collision Reconstruction Unit has taken carriage of the investigation. That unit is typically called in to map and examine serious collision scenes before determining what led to a crash.
Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the collision and has not yet spoken with police to come forward. Witnesses can contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 905-825-4747 ext. 5065 or by email at CRU@haltonpolice.ca.
Mainway is a busy east-west corridor through south-central Burlington, lined with parks, schools and recreation facilities, and Walkers Line is a major north-south artery in the city.
No charges have been announced. Police have not released the identities of the pedestrian or the driver.
