Secondary students with the Durham Catholic District School Board — which serves families across Ajax — were honoured at a provincial awards dinner in Toronto last weekend.
The students received the Catholic Student Leadership Award at the Father Patrick Fogarty Awards Dinner on October 24, according to a Durham Catholic District School Board news release. The awards are presented by the Catholic Education Foundation of Ontario (CEFO).
The board said several of the award recipients attended the dinner in person, where they were joined by Director of Education Mike Winn and DCDSB chaplains.
What the award recognizes
The Catholic Student Leadership Award is a provincial honour that recognizes students who demonstrate academic excellence, Christian leadership and a strong commitment to serving their school, parish and community, the board said.
The Father Patrick Fogarty Awards Dinner is an annual event that celebrates contributions to Catholic education in Ontario.
In its release, the board praised the students as outstanding young leaders who shine through their faith-filled witness, service to others and commitment to Catholic education.
What it means for Ajax families
The Durham Catholic District School Board operates elementary and secondary schools throughout Ajax and the rest of Durham Region. The recognition places local students among those celebrated provincewide for leadership and service.
The board did not release the names of the individual award recipients or identify which schools they attend. Further details about the students and their accomplishments were not immediately available.
The Catholic Education Foundation of Ontario, which presents the awards, works to support and promote Catholic education across the province.
