Mississauga maintenance subsidy: keep the right receipts

The Mississauga maintenance subsidy can help eligible residents recover paid yard-care and snow-removal costs. Keeping a receipt with the required details matters: the City's application process asks for evidence of both the work and the payment.

The current service page covers gardening, lawn and tree care, yard clean-up and snow removal. Its annual claim period runs from January 1 through December 31, with applications due the following March 31. For eligible services paid for during 2026, that means March 31, 2027.

Who can claim the Mississauga maintenance subsidy?

The application, revised in November 2025, sets out two qualifying routes: residents aged 65 or older receiving Guaranteed Income Supplement, or people receiving disability benefits or income support under ODSP during the claim period.

Applicants must have lived at the property as its owner, the owner's spouse or a tenant. It must be their primary residence; the form also excludes owning or leasing another property requiring such services. Applicants must declare that they could not perform the claimed work. Another resident over 16 who could do it, or condominium-provided maintenance, can rule out eligibility.

The form says the maximum subsidy is set through the annual budget. It does not state a 2026 amount. Confirm that limit with the City before relying on a particular reimbursement.

What to keep with the application

The City's payment-receipt template records the provider's name, telephone number and signature; the customer's name and service address; and the service description, cost, service date and payment date. Seasonal contracts without itemized service dates must show their start and end dates. The receipt may be audited.

GIS applicants must also provide the matching year's T4A(OAS) slip showing Box 21. Send the Mississauga maintenance subsidy application and supporting documents to tax@mississauga.ca, or use the mailing and drop-box instructions on the service page.

Approval is conditional on the City's review. Cheques for approved claims follow June 15 of the next year; applicants who move must notify the City. Questions can go to 311, or 905-615-4311 from outside Mississauga.
