Comic fans, gamers and families in Mississauga have a free weekend of fandom coming their way. The Mississauga Comic Expo (MCX) returns to the Hazel McCallion Central Library on Friday, Nov. 6 and Saturday, Nov. 7, according to a City of Mississauga news release.

Hosted by Mississauga Library, the two-day event celebrates comics, gaming, art and fan culture, with activities geared to all ages. Admission is free and no registration is required, though visitors can pre-register on Eventbrite to receive updates and reminders.

What's on the schedule

Friday runs from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m., opening with activities and a superhero movie screening. Saturday goes from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a fuller lineup that includes more than 120 exhibitors, special guests and a full day of programming.

The program spans a range of hands-on and drop-in activities. Attendees can walk the cosplay red carpet, pose at a green-screen photo booth and browse the MCX Trading Post for unique finds. Workshops cover the art of gag comics, miniature building and chibi-style drawing.

Gamers can try new board games, free-play video games and trivia contests. A Manga Lounge offers a wide selection of manga and a space to meet fellow fans.

Families with younger children will find sketch challenges, Pokémon crafts, LEGO building and a dance party, the City said.

Getting there

The expo takes place at Hazel McCallion Central Library, 301 Burnhamthorpe Rd. W. All activities are drop-in on a first-come, first-served basis, so popular sessions may fill up quickly.

The library is served by several MiWay routes, and the city is encouraging attendees to plan their trip with the MiWay Trip Planner rather than driving.

Mississauga Library offers free books, comics, games, programs and events year-round. More information is available at mississaugalibrary.ca.

For readers in Brampton and Caledon, the library sits near the centre of Mississauga and is reachable by transit from across the Region of Peel, making the free expo a low-cost weekend option for fans of all ages.
