Winners have been announced in the City of Niagara Falls' 7th annual Spooky Awards, the municipality's Halloween decorating contest, which drew entries from 59 households this year.

Awards were handed out in three categories: People's Choice, Judges' Favourite, and Best Effects, according to a City of Niagara Falls media release. The People's Choice Award alone attracted 1,160 votes from the public.

With Halloween falling on Saturday, the city is encouraging residents to get out and tour the community's most spirited displays using its interactive Spooky Map, available at niagarafalls.ca/spooky.

A self-guided Halloween tour

The Spooky Map pinpoints every household that took part in this year's contest, including the award-winning displays. It gives trick-or-treaters, families and Halloween enthusiasts a ready-made route through neighbourhoods across Niagara Falls for the big night.

Photos of the winning displays have also been posted to the city's website and shared across its social media channels, so residents who can't make the rounds in person can still see how this year's top decorators transformed their homes.

The contest, now in its seventh year, has become a fixture of the fall season in Niagara Falls, turning ordinary residential streets into seasonal attractions and giving households a chance to show off their creativity.

The city thanked all residents who participated, voted, and helped make this year's Spooky Awards a success.

Residents with questions about the contest can contact Michelle Nicholls, community recreation coordinator for special events with the City of Niagara Falls, by email at mnicholls@niagarafalls.ca.
