Niagara Region has launched a new campaign, Niagara Thrives, aimed at strengthening the local economy as shifting trade and tariff conditions continue to affect businesses, consumers and communities across the peninsula.

The campaign, announced in a Niagara Region media release posted by the City of Niagara Falls, has two main parts: encouraging residents to choose local businesses, and connecting businesses with practical resources to help them adapt.

"Changing trade and tariff conditions can affect costs, supply chains and access to markets for businesses across Niagara," said Ron Tripp, Chief Administrative Officer for Niagara Region, in the release. "Niagara Thrives is designed to strengthen our local economy by encouraging residents to choose local and connecting businesses with practical resources to navigate, adapt and thrive."

For businesses, the campaign points to Tariff Resources and Support for Niagara Businesses, the Region's central online source for trade and tariff information. The resource is meant to help businesses assess their options, determine next steps and connect with relevant government agencies and support organizations.

For residents, the push comes as Niagara heads into the holiday season. The campaign asks people to shop, support and share local pride — choosing locally made products and services, enjoying experiences close to home, recommending favourite businesses and leaving positive online reviews.

"Niagara businesses are central to the jobs, services and experiences that make our communities strong," said George Spezza, Director of Economic Development for Niagara Region. "As businesses navigate changing trade and tariff conditions, the choices residents make can have a meaningful local impact. This campaign recognizes that a strong local economy depends on thriving businesses and residents who choose to support them."

The campaign lands at a time when tariff pressures have raised concerns for many Niagara operators, from manufacturers to retailers and tourism-dependent businesses. Rather than a single program, Niagara Thrives acts as an umbrella, tying together the Region's existing supports under one message.

Residents looking for local businesses to support can browse the Niagara Business Directory, while businesses can access trade and tariff information, guidance and support through Niagara Economic Development.

The release did not specify a fixed end date for the campaign, suggesting the shop-local messaging will continue beyond the holiday shopping season.
