Pickering families will be without the Pinegrove Park playground for about five weeks, as the City of Pickering began reconstruction work at the site on Tuesday.

The playground closed Tuesday, October 20, and is scheduled to reopen by Friday, November 27, according to a City of Pickering notice of construction.

What the project includes

The work involves three main upgrades: new senior playground equipment, replacement of the existing engineered wood fibre safety surfacing, and the addition of accessible ramps into both playground areas.

The city said the new equipment and ramps are intended to make the park more accessible and up to current safety standards.

Timelines could shift

The city cautioned that the posted dates are estimates and may change. Weather, contractor and material availability, and unexpected conditions found during excavation could all affect the schedule.

The notice thanked residents for their patience while the work is completed.

Who to contact

Questions about the project can be directed to Jia Dhatt, Coordinator of Parks Development with the city's Engineering Services Department, at 905-420-4660, extension 2060, or by email at jdhatt@pickering.ca.

The department is located at One The Esplanade in Pickering.

With the closure running into late November, families looking for alternative playgrounds in the area may want to plan around nearby city parks until the new equipment is in place and the surfacing work is finished.
