Ottawa police laid 41 provincial offence notices during a two-day traffic enforcement push across the city's south end, the Ottawa Police Service said.

Officers with the South Neighbourhood Resource Team carried out the initiative on October 16 and 17, stopping more than 40 vehicles in total.

Where officers were posted

The enforcement focused on Barrhaven, Findlay Creek and Riverside South, as well as busy intersections along the Hunt Club corridor both east and west.

According to the Ottawa Police Service, officers paid particular attention to roadways flagged as community priorities, including concerns raised by Findlay Creek residents.

During the initiative, four vehicles were searched in connection with concerns involving cannabis or liquor.

Enforcement paired with conversation

The police service said the initiative was launched in light of recent traffic-related fatalities and continuing concerns about unsafe driving, and combined enforcement with community engagement.

Officers spoke directly with drivers and passengers about safe driving practices, the consequences of unsafe behaviour behind the wheel, and the shared responsibility for keeping Ottawa's roads safe.

In the news release issued Monday, police said officers appreciated the positive interactions with residents and the chance to discuss road safety and broader neighbourhood concerns.

What comes next

The Ottawa Police Service is encouraging all road users to remain attentive, obey traffic laws and make safe choices every time they travel, noting that road safety remains a shared responsibility.

The service said it will continue working with residents through proactive enforcement and community engagement to address local concerns and promote safer roads across Ottawa.

Residents can view, download and interact with police data through the Community Safety Data portal at data.ottawapolice.ca, according to the Ottawa Police Service.

Police are also asking residents to register their information and security camera locations at CAMSafe.ca to support investigations.
