The elevator at Whitby's Civic Recreation Complex will be out of service for upgrades starting Oct. 26, with the work expected to wrap up by Oct. 29, the Town of Whitby announced in a service notice.
The outage means anyone who cannot use the stairs will need to arrange help to reach the lower level of the facility during the four-day window.
How to access the lower level
Visitors who need to reach the lower level and cannot use the stairs are asked to speak with reception staff, who can arrange access through the staff entrance, according to a Town of Whitby service notice.
The town cautions that no alternative lifting device will be available during the disruption, so the staff-entrance route is the only option for anyone who cannot manage the stairs on their own.
What it means for users
Anyone with programs, appointments or activities booked at the Civic Recreation Complex between Oct. 26 and Oct. 29 may want to build in extra time for the alternate access route, particularly at busy periods when staff are assisting other visitors.
The upgrade is expected to be finished by the end of the day Oct. 29, after which normal elevator service should resume. The town has not indicated any planned follow-up closures tied to the work.
Residents with questions about the disruption or access arrangements can contact the Town of Whitby through its website.
