A proposal to turn an existing industrial building on Albert Street into an indoor pickleball facility is moving through Midland's planning process, and residents will get their chance to weigh in at a public meeting in December.

The Town of Midland's planning department has received a complete application under Section 34(10.4) of the Planning Act for a zoning by-law amendment at 150 Albert Street, legally described as Part of Lots 16 and 17, Concession 3, according to a Town of Midland notice.

The lands are currently zoned Industrial (M2) under the Town's Zoning By-law No. 2004-90. The applicant is asking council to rezone the property to an Industrial-Exception (M2-XX) zone so that an indoor recreational facility — specifically a pickleball court facility — can operate within the existing building on the site.

Council will consider the amendment at a public meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2026, at 2 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the Municipal Building at 575 Dominion Ave.

How to have your say

Anyone may make representation or present submissions on the matter. The Town is asking that submissions be made in writing, directed to the Clerk's office at clerks@midland.ca and/or planning@midland.ca, no later than Dec. 9, 2026.

Residents who are unable to submit written comments but wish to speak at the meeting are asked to contact the Clerk's office in advance to arrange an oral statement.

The Town cautions that anyone sending letters, faxes, emails, presentations or other communications about the application should be aware their name and the fact they contacted the Town will become part of the public record. The Town will also make the communication and any personal information in it available to the public unless the sender expressly asks the Town to remove it.

People who want to be notified of council's decision on the amendment must submit a written request to Sherri Edgar, Director of Legislative Services/Town Clerk, at 575 Dominion Ave., Midland, ON, L4R 1R2.

Materials related to the application are posted on the Town's development project webpage for 150 Albert Street, under file ZBA-03-2026.

The December meeting falls shortly after Midland's municipal election. Voting Day in the Town is Oct. 26, 2026, at 8 p.m., with online and telephone voting available around the clock until polls close, according to the Town.
