Toronto residents can return to skiing and snowboarding in North York on Wednesday, Jan. 7, when the Earl Bales Ski and Snowboard Centre reopens for the winter season, according to a City of Toronto news release.
The main and beginner hills will be open at the start of the season. The south and race hills will remain temporarily closed while crews build snow.
The season is scheduled to continue through Sunday, March 22, provided weather and slope conditions allow. Daily operations also depend on weather and snowfall, so the City advises visitors to check the centre’s webpage before heading out.
Lift tickets range from $21.29 to $40.65. The North York facility is near public transit, offering Toronto residents an option for skiing and snowboarding within the city.
Lessons begin later in January
The slopes will reopen two weeks before lessons, which are scheduled to start Wednesday, Jan. 21. The centre offers programming for all ages, with instruction for beginners as well as more advanced participants.
Its terrain includes beginner hills and full runs for more experienced skiers and snowboarders, although the opening-day selection will be limited to the main and beginner hills.
Helmets are mandatory for everyone registered in lessons. The City also recommends helmets for patrons of all ages who use the centre outside of lessons.
Visitors can find hours of operation and details about lift tickets, passes and rental equipment on the Earl Bales webpage. The page is also where residents should check conditions and operations before making a trip.
Other winter recreation options
While skiing and snowboarding at Earl Bales involve participation fees, the City also offers free winter recreation programs and activities. Information about those options is available on its Ice and Snow activities webpage.
The City said some spaces remain available in its regular winter recreation programs for residents looking to register.
