The Lakelands wastewater upgrade would add emergency storage away from an existing Brampton pumping station, addressing a space constraint that prevents the storage from fitting at the station itself.
Peel’s advance notice for Project 16-2905 M identifies two locations: the pumping station at 26 Stoneylake Avenue and a new storage facility across from 13 Deep Sea Drive. The Region says the work is intended to handle more wastewater and reduce the risk of sewer backups or spills to the lake.
Why the Lakelands wastewater upgrade needs another site
The February 2025 project report describes a station with firm capacity of 64 litres per second and a required increase to 72 litres per second. It calls for two hours of emergency storage and identifies the eastern part of Lakelands Village Park, west of Southlake Boulevard and Deep Sea Drive, as the preferred location.
The report says the existing station lacks enough space for that storage. A piped storage option was also considered infeasible because of ground and groundwater conditions.
Earlier estimates need current confirmation
The report’s tentative schedule placed construction between fall 2026 and spring 2028. Its approximately $8.2-million preliminary construction estimate excluded property acquisition and carried a stated accuracy range of minus 15 to plus 30 per cent. These are planning figures, not verified contract costs or payments.
Peel’s advance notice still refers to preparation in early summer 2026, including utility markings, surveys and photographs to support restoration. It does not establish that construction has started. A current award or dated mobilisation notice has not been verified for this article.
Residents can use the notice’s project-specific feedback link and construction e-notice signup to follow the Lakelands wastewater upgrade. The historical schedule should not be treated as confirmation of work on any particular day.
